Covid-19 Working Practice

In light of the current advice from the NHS and Government, we would like to update you on the measures we are putting into place at both clinics to try to reduce the spread of the Covid-19 and ensure the safety of all our children, families and staff.

Please note parents/carers will now need to wear a face mask when bringing children into clinic, this is in line with the current government guidelines (this does not apply to those who are exempt from wearing face masks).

Assessments

Prior to assessment

· Should you or your child or any other family member display symptoms of Covid-19, we ask you to cancel and defer the assessment by telephone, even on the morning of the appointment.

· Another date will be rearranged at no extra charge.

· On arriving to clinic, you will be admitted into reception automatically via a mechanism from the office.

· Please stay in your car until 5 minutes before your appointment.

· When entering the reception, a member of staff will ask you to take your child’s and your own temperature using an infrared forehead thermometer.

· This will be recorded and countersigned by a member of staff.

· In the event of a raised temperature of above 37.8, you will be asked to leave.

· Next, please use the available hand sanitiser.

· Please sit on the chairs at the left side of the room (beside the windows) until your therapist takes you to the assessment room.

· Your therapist will introduce herself from the recommended 2m distance.

· You will be shown the available toilet facility and we would ask you all to wash your hands and ensure your child is ready for the assessment.

During the assessment

· The assessment table will be divided by a perspex screen between your child and the therapist.

· Your child will use their own assessment equipment.

· When conducting physical aspects, the therapist will remain a safe distance from your child.

· Your therapist will wear disposable gloves to hand any items to your child.

· One parent will be allowed into the assessment to sit next to your child.

· In the event that your child requires physical assistance, a parent/carer may be asked to provide this or your therapist will wear a face shield to assist.

· After the assessment, you will be required to wash your hands and return to the reception area.

· Parent feedback will be conducted at a mutually convenient date and time via telephone, Skype/Facetime/Zoom.

PPE Equipment

Please note a face mask or shield with other PPE equipment will be worn by your therapist if your child cannot maintain a safe social distance, or requires more physical assistance and help.  Should you wish to discuss this beforehand, please contact our office.

Treatment

Prior to treatment

· Should you or your child or any other family member display symptoms of Covid-19, please cancel the session by telephone.

· Another date will be rearranged at no extra charge.

· On arriving to the clinic, please remain in your car until 5 minutes before your appointment.

· When entering reception, a member of staff will immediately ask you to take your child’s and your own temperature using an infrared forehead thermometer.

· This will be recorded and countersigned by a member of staff.

· In the event of a raised temperature of above 37.8, you will be asked to leave.

· When remaining at the clinic, immediately use the available hand sanitiser.

· Please sit on the chairs at the left side of the room (beside the windows), until your therapist takes you to the treatment room.

During the treatment

· Your child will be collected as usual to go to the treatment room.

· Parents/carers may be asked to help if your child requires physical assistance.

· Your therapist will remain throughout the session at a safe distance of 2m from both you and your child.

· In the event that your child requires physical assistance (such as correct positioning or into a swing), you will be asked to provide this, or your therapist may wear a face shield to assist.

· After the treatment, you will be required to wash your hands before you leave the building,

· The home programme will be discussed in the final 5-10 minutes of the session.

· Your therapist will wear gloves to write and hand you the home programme.

PPE Equipment

· Please note, a face shield or mask and other PPE equipment will be worn by your therapist with children that cannot maintain a safe social distance.

· Face shields and gloves are normally worn for most sessions in our Stockton clinic.

· During food therapy, a perspex screen will be between the therapist and the family to conduct the SOS Feeding Programme.

Other Working Practices

· Only one family will be allowed into the clinic at any one time.

· All staff will have their temperature taken on arriving to clinic.

· No member of staff will be allowed to stay at work with a temperature above 37.8 or if they display any other signs of Covid-19.

· Therapy staff will change into work clothes and shoes on arriving at the clinic.

· Our staff will wash hands prior and after all treatment sessions.

· Hand sanitiser will be available in the treatment room.

· All used equipment will be cleaned with a disinfectant following each session by a designated staff member.

· Only one child will access the facility at any one time.

· Only one therapist will be in the session with a child.

· 2m distance lines have been measured and taped onto the floor which will give therapy staff safe distance guidelines during sessions.

· Windows will remain open in the session to ensure fresh air is circulating.

· Therapy staff will wear gloves to hand children small treatment aids such as bean bags etc.

· Equipment will be divided into boxes, so consecutive sessions will have a new set to use, which gives time for a previous set to dry out after being cleaned.

· At the end of the day, all high use facilities are cleaned (door handles, toilet and kitchen areas).

· The clinic is deep cleaned on a weekly basis.

Refreshments

In the current situation, we are asking parents and carers not to use the kitchen area for refreshments. We would recommend you bring your own refreshments until such a time that we can provide hot and cold drinks again.

We are monitoring all the official advice regularly and will review our practice weekly and in line with our professional organisation (RCOT) and any new Government guidelines.

Thank you for your co-operation
